Toby Hughes

Toby Hughes is a serial entrepreneur & investor with over 20 years experience in building fast growing media, technology & financial services businesses. He has been named in the Insider Media List of 42 under 42 entrepreneurs and in SETsquared Partnerships 50 in 15 (Top 50 entrepreneurs in its 15-year history).

Toby trained in audio and visual media and founded a number of small media production companies in his early 20’s. By 2003, Toby had joined Add Momentum Ltd as their first employee, where he helped conceive a technology application called Leadbay. Leadbay grew quickly and became a market leader in Financial Services. Toby lead innovation for the Add Momentum Group and helped launch a number of new businesses before overseeing the sale of the Group to its largest customer.

In 2010 Toby launched Blue Speck Financial Ltd, which released MoneyHub in 2013. Blue Speck Financial and its technology was acquired by South African insurance giant MMI Holdings Ltd under its brand Momentum in July 2014. The acquisition accelerated Blue Speck’s capabilities significantly and Toby remained CEO for two years post the acquisition.

Toby was a founding director of FDATA (the Financial Data and Technology Association) with the specific goals of lobbying the government to create Open Banking and also to establish best practice in financial data standards.

Toby is currently director of a number of media and technology businesses and splits his time between supporting the board of YellowDog and scaling media businesses.
