The YellowDog Compute service is part of a suite of modules which constitute the YellowDog Platform. The module is the primary route for all customers to obtain massive amounts of computing power across multiple sources through a simple, flexible and powerful interface. The YellowDog Compute Service range of compute, includes provisioning latent compute on premise and in private and public clouds.
The Compute Service can be hosted by YellowDog as part of the core hosted YellowDog service or be integrated in YellowDog’s on premise solutions. The service is also scalable; able to run in a cluster.
The YellowDog Compute service removes the complexity of managing compute from multiple sources and is accessed via a clean, straightforward and secure API. In addition, YellowDog makes a Java SDK available to developers of 3rd party applications which can be directly integrated. This reduces the barriers for application developers to use YellowDog by reducing the time required to read detailed documentation and offering several helper methods for repetitive tasks such as creating compute requirements.
The Compute Service’s inbuilt Waterfall Provision strategy allows customers to provision compute machine instances by acquiring the maximum available from each compute provision source in order, until the required number of instances is reached. For more sophisticated strategies, the YellowDog Business Rules module needs to be licensed.
