BAFTA winning animation studio, Blue Zoo, has collaborated with YellowDog, an award winning cloud and crowd-sourced render services company and the GPU-accelerated render engine, Redshift to produce a short animation called ‘No More Stuff’.

The trio of animation and tech royalty have combined their seasoned skills to create an exceptional parody action movie trailer that is sure to be popular not only animators and 3D artists alike, but mere mortals too.

Blue Zoo is renowned for releasing special animations each festive season – last year’s short was particularly successful, being named a Vimeo Staff Pick as well as winning a collection of awards.  The 2015 film, entitled ‘More Stuff’, was a clever spin-off looking at ‘the true meaning of Christmas’ whilst delivered in high-quality image rendering. It featured Santa’s mischievous elves mocking the latest must-have items in Santa’s sweatshop, before going on strike with the commercialisation of the whole festive season.

With the bar set high, this year’s Christmas animation does not disappoint.  Blue Zoo bring another belly-laughing couple of minutes to your life supported by high quality of rendering. The spoof film trailer, ‘No More Stuff’, looks at what happens when Santa returns from delivering his presents, to find his elves have run amok. The comical short film is made up of around 20 movie references, making it all the more entertaining to guess as many movie titles as you can.

Tom Box, co-Founder and Director at Blue Zoo, commented:

“The most challenging knock-on effect from a tight schedule is render time, or lack of it! And producing high-quality tactile renders full of hair doesn’t help matters, as they are notoriously slow to render.  Our own render farm is maxed out for other needs so using YellowDog’s cloud rendering has been the answer.  It has seamlessly integrated with our own in-house provision so our artists don’t know if their shot was being rendered locally in our server room or on YellowDog’s servers in a datacentre thousands of miles away.”

Tom continued:

“Due to the popularity of More Stuff, we decided the story had to continue in the form of a movie trailer.  We asked all our artists to come up with movie parodies and add in their own jokes about what Santa would discover when he returned from his deliveries.  Everyone’s spare hours were used to create a small prop or animate a quick shot, the end result being No More Stuff.”

Gareth Williams, Founder and Managing Director at YellowDog said:

“Having loved Blue Zoo’s 2015 Christmas animation, we have been eagerly anticipating what they would produce in 2016.  The studio is known for their high quality animation and therefore they need render services to fit.  This particular project has taken only a couple of weeks to render, all done in the knowledge that it will be ready for the launch.  By which time we hope to have named all the movies referred to in the film short!”

YellowDog are building the world’s fastest super computer by harnessing and monetising underutilised computer power, enabling an incredibly quick and cost effective delivery, through leveraging this virtually unlimited power on demand. Redshift is the render engine behind the short, delivering superior production rendering in a super-quick time by leveraging the computing performance and efficiency of GPU.

‘No More Stuff’ is set for release on Monday 19th December
